Let \(E\) be a Hilbert \(C^*\)-module and \(L(E)\) be the set of adjointable operators on \(E\). The authors provide new insight into the polar decomposition theory and its applications. In fact, the polar decomposition of \(T\) is characterized as \(T = U(T^*T)^{\frac{1}{2}}\) and \(R(U^*)=\overline{R(T^*)}\), where \(U\) is a partial isometry, and \(R(U^*)\) and \(\overline{R(T^*)}\) denote the range of \(U^*\) and the norm closure of the range of \(T^*\), respectively. \textit{N. E. Wegge-Olsen} [\(K\)-theory and \(C^*\)-algebras: a friendly approach. Oxford: Oxford University Press (1993; Zbl 0780.46038)] proved that the operator \(T\in L(H, K)\) has the polar decomposition \(T = U|T|\) if five equalities hold, where \(H\) and \(K\) are Hilbert spaces. The authors also prove that these five equalities can be simplified by two equalities.
