The authors investigate the second-order differentiability with respect to parameters of solutions of the system \[ x'(t) = f(x(t), x(t-\tau(t)), \sigma),\quad \tau'(t) = g(x(t), \tau(t), \sigma), \] \(t\in [0, \alpha]\), with initial conditions \(x(t) = \varphi(t)\) for \(t\in [-r, 0]\) and \(\tau(0) = \tau_0\). The significance of investigating such theoretical problems has not been over stressed so far. Although research on first-order differentiability with respect to parameters for similar systems has appeared in the literature, the problem of second-order differentiability arises naturally with increased difficulty and complexity and this seems to be the first paper dealing with this problem. The paper has a well-elaborated setting to pave the way to the main result.
