Let \(R\) be a commutative ring and \(\mathbb{N}_0\) the ordinary set of nonnegative integers. A function \(t:\mathbb{N}_0\times \mathbb{N}_0\longrightarrow R\) is called a twist function on \(R\) if it satisfies the following three properties for all \(n,m,q\in \mathbb{N}_0\): (i) \(t(0,q)=1\), (ii) \(t(n,m)=t(m,n)\) (iii) \(t(n,m).t(n+m,q)=t(n,m+q).t(m,q)\). For a given twist function \(t\) on \(R\), we define a multiplication \(*_t\) on \(R[[X]]\) by \(\displaystyle \big(\sum_{i:0}^{\infty}a_iX^i\big)*_t\big (\sum_{j:0}^{\infty}b_jX^j\big) =\sum_{k:0}^{\infty}\big(\sum_{i+j=k}t(i,j)a_ib_j\big)X^k\). With this multiplication \(R[X]\) and \(R[[X]]\) become commutative rings containing \(R\) that we denote by \(R^t[X]\) and \(R^t[[X]]\). In this paper, the authors see when they are integral domains, how they are related to \(R[X]\) and \(R[[X]]\), when \(I^t[X]\) and \(I^t[[X]]\) are prime ideals for an ideal \(I\) of \(R\). They compare the Krull dimensions of \(R^t[X]\) and \(R^t[[X]]\) to that of \(R\). They study the UFD and GCD-properties of these two rings. Special cases and examples are treated.
