This paper is a continuation of the previous papers of the same authors [Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 49, No. 2, 331--359 (2006; Zbl 1103.41027)]; Constructive Approximation 23, No. 1, 61--77 (2006; Zbl 1100.41015)] on compact embeddings of weighted Besov spaces. For a given weight function \(w:{\mathbb R}^d \to (0,\infty)\), the weighted Besov spaces \(B_{p,q}^s({\mathbb R}^d, w)\) is the collection of all tempered distributions \({f\in S'({\mathbb R}^d)}\) such that \({wf\in B_{p,q}^s({\mathbb R}^d)}\). In the paper under review the authors deal with weights of of logarithmic type, meaning that, apart from the general condition \({\lim_{| x| \to\infty}w(x)=\infty}\) which is always assumed, the weights satisfy \({w(x)\leq c(1+\log| x| )^a}\) if \({| x| \geq 1}\) with some \({c>0}\) and \({a>0}\). The authors determine the exact asymptotic order of the entropy numbers of operators \(\text{id}: B_{p_1,q_1}^{s_1}({\mathbb R}^d, w)\to B_{p_2,q_2}^{s_2}({\mathbb R}^d)\). The following interesting effect, which does not occur for polynomial weights, is discovered. If the weight \({w(x)}\) increases ``very slowly'' as \(| x|\) tends to infinity, the entropy numbers depend only on the weight and no longer on the parameters of the involved Besov space. All results remain valid for Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. To obtain these results the authors use the following method. The the discrete wavelet transform is used to establish the isomorphism between weighted Besov space and appropriate sequence spaces. So complicated problems in function spaces are reduced to simpler problems in sequence spaces. The asymptotic order of the entropy numbers in sequence spaces is determined. Then the results are transferred back to the function space.
