In a previous paper, the authors and a third collaborator generalized and refined Göllnitz's well-known partition theorem by means of a rather complicated key identity with three indices of summation. In this paper, they use \(q\)-series to prove a related identity with four indices of summation. They also show that Schur's celebrated partition theorem follows from this ``quartic key identity''.
