The author introduces the notion of countably measure determined compact spaces, originally due to M. Talagrand, meaning compact spaces~\(K\) carrying a~sequence \((\mu_j)_{j=1}^\infty\) of Radon probabilities on~\(K\) such that \(\bigcap_{j=1}^\infty\text{Ker}\mu_j=\{0\}\), considering~\(\mu_j\) as elements of the dual space \(C(K)^*\). A~normed space~\(X\) is said to be injected into a~normed space~\(Y\) if there is a~one-to-one bounded linear map from \(X\) into~\(Y\). The author points out that \(K\)~is countably measure determined if and only if the Banach space \(C(K)\) with the supremum norm is injected into~\(\ell_2\). Considering the properties (1)~\(K\)~is separable; (2)~\(K\)~carries a~strictly positive Radon probability~\(\mu\) of countable type (i.e., \(L_1(\mu)\) is separable); (3)~\(K\)~is countably measure determined; (4)~\(K\)~carries a~strictly positive Radon measure, the implications \((1)\Rightarrow(2)\Rightarrow(3)\Rightarrow(4)\) hold and none of the implications can be reversed. The author studies properties of the countably measure determined compacta. The work was motivated by the study of the existence of nonseparable linear subspaces contained in zero-sets of quadratic polynomials on real Banach spaces.
