Let \(X\) be a completely regular Hausdorff space and \(C_p(X)\) denote the locally convex space of continuous real valued functions on \(X\) with the topolopy of pointwise convergence. A result of \textit{S. Mrówka} [Stud. Math. 21, 1--14 (1961; Zbl 0099.10102)] says that \(X\) is realcompact if, and only if, every sequentially continuous linear functional on \(C_p(X)\) is continuous. A result of \textit{J. Schmets} [Spaces of vector-valued continuous functions (Lect. Notes Math. 1003, Springer, Berlin) (1983; Zbl 0511.46033)] says that \(X\) is realcompact if, and only if, every bounded linear map of \(C_p(X)\) into a Banach space is continuous. In the present paper, the author studies certain classes \(\mathcal C\) of locally convex topological linear spaces such that \(C_p(X)\in {\mathcal C}\) if and only if \(X\) is realcompact. The construction of \(\mathcal C\) is based on earlier work by the author.
