The authors prove the global existence and uniqueness for solutions of the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation in certain classes of unbounded smooth functions. The analogous results for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation were proved in 1980s by Bondareva and Shubin and are used in this article when the desired solutions of mKdV are obtained by applying the inverse Miura transform to solutions of the KdV equation. In these classes of potentials the invariance of the spectrum of Schrödinger operator under the KdV flow and the invariance of the spectrum of impedance operator under the mKdV flow are also established.
