The authors consider a homogeneous Dirichlet problem with impulses at fixed times for an ODE of second order: \begin{align*} & -u''(t) + a(t)u(t) = f(t,u(t),u'(t)), \quad t \ne t_j,\\ & \triangle u'(t_j) = I_j(u(t_j)), \quad k = 1,\ldots,p,\\ & u(0) = u(T) = 0, \end{align*} where \(0 = t_0 < t_1 < \ldots < t_p < t_{p+1} = T\), \(f : [0,T] \times {\mathbb R} \to {\mathbb R}\), \(I_j : {\mathbb R} \to {\mathbb R}\) are continuous, \(a \in L^\infty((0,T))\), \(\mathrm{ess\, inf}\ a > - \lambda_1\) with \(\lambda_1 = \pi^2/T^2\). Using variational methods the existence of at least one solution is obtained.
