The author studies the existence of positive solutions of the second order Neumann boundary value problem \[ u''(t)+\lambda^2\, u(t)=f(t,u(t))+ \xi(t), \; t \in (0,1), \; u'(0)=u'(1)=0. \] Here, \(\xi\) is a continuous function and \(f\) is allowed to be singular both at the time and the spacial variable. Under suitable assumption on the behavior of the function \(f\) the existence of positive solutions is established by the Guo-Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem of cone expansion-compression type.
