\textit{M.\,Mbekhta} [Acta Sci.\ Math.\ 70, No.\,3--4, 767--781 (2004; Zbl 1087.47001)] showed that a contraction on a Hilbert space is a partial isometry if and only if it has a contractive generalized inverse. The author of the present interesting paper proves that a contraction between Hilbert \(C^*\)-modules is a partial isometry if and only if it possesses a contractive Moore--Penrose inverse. He also shows that a bounded adjointable operator \(T\) between Hilbert \(C^*\)-modules is a partial isometry if and only if its bounded transform \(F_T = T(1 + T^*T)^{-1/2}\) is \(2^{-1/2}T\).
