The authors investigate the stability of Ekman boundary layers for rotating fluid. As Ekman and Rossby numbers approach zero, the spectral stability used here implies linear and nonlinear stabilities of approximate solutions. The smallness condition obtained with energy methods is replaced with a sharp, but weaker, spectral condition. This system is of interest when oceanic or atmospheric motions are analyzed.
