The Askey-Wilson \(q\)-beta integrals play a fundamental role in the theory of orthogonal polynomials. In this paper the authors show that those integrals can be obtained in a shorter and straightforward way from the Bailey's fundamental identity of bilateral well-poised \({}_6\psi_6\)-series. An extension to more general \(q-\)beta integrals is also given.
