The author considers a second order elliptic equation \[ {\mathcal A}u-k^ 2u:=-\Sigma \partial_ i(a_{ij} \partial_ ju)+qu-k^ 2u=f \] in an infinite domain \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}}^ n\) with infinite boundary where \(\Omega\) is described by \(x_ n>F(x_ 1,...,x_{n-1})\). In contrast to similar problems considered by \textit{V. Vogelsang} [Math. Z. 144, 101-124 (1975; Zbl 0301.35029)] conditions are placed on F which imply that \(\Omega\) is ''thinner than any cone for large \(| x| ''\). Assuming that \({\mathcal A}\)-k\({}^ 2\) approaches the Helmholtz operator for large \(| x|\) the author proves nonexistence of (nontrivial) \(L^ 2\)-solutions and uniqueness and existence of radiating solutions.
