The authors collect some inequalities and establish the following sharp double inequality for bounding the \(n\)-th harmonic number \(H(n)\) \[ -\frac 1{12n^2+2(7-12\gamma)/(2\gamma-1)}\leq H(n)-\ln n-\frac 1{2n}-\gamma< -\frac 1{12n^2+6/5} \] with equality in the left-hand side only when \(n=1\), where the scalars \(\frac{2(7-12\gamma)}{(2\gamma-1)}= 0.950\dots\) and \(\tfrac 65\) are best possible.
