The authors study a hyperbolic systems of balance laws with several space variables. They introduce an entropy condition, which allows to use the Chapman-Enskog expansion, and derive the corresponding viscous conservation laws. Further structural conditions are discussed in order to develope existence theories both for balance laws and for viscous conservation laws.
