The authors study the discrete Maxwell theory from the lattice gauge theory perspective. It is shown that the scheme is convergent in the energy norm by a comparison with the classical Yee-scheme. The analysis of lattice gauge theory for Maxwell's equation can be applied to more complicated wave equations, such as the Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation or Yang-Mills-Higgs equations.
