Upper and lower semicontinuous functions play an important role in optimization theory and abstract analysis. Concepts of upper and lower semicontinuity for fuzzy mappings were introduced and discussed by various authors. Recently \textit{Yu-E. Bao} and \textit{C.-X. Wu} [Comput. Math. Appl. 51, No.~12, 1809--1816 (2006; Zbl 1134.52011)] introduced it through the ``fuzz-max'' partial ordering. In the present paper the authors redefine this concept by using parameterized triples of fuzzy numbers and a linear ordering proposed by \textit{R. Goetschel, jun.} and \textit{W. Voxman} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 18, 31--43 (1986; Zbl 0626.26014)]. The authors prove that an upper (resp. lower) semicontinuous fuzzy mapping attains a maximum (resp. minimum) with respect to this linear ordering on a closed and bounded subset of the Euclidean space.
