Under mild conditions on a given class \({\mathcal M}\) of homomorphisms, some elementary properties on full reflective subcategories with \({\mathcal M}\)- essential reflections (or equivalently: of \({\mathcal M}\)-reflective subcategories whose reflector preserves \({\mathcal M}\)-morphisms) are presented in this paper, together with a list of interesting examples. \{For further results on such subcategories, see \textit{C. M. Ringel}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 161, 293-306 (1971; Zbl 0206.301); here \({\mathcal M} =\) all monomorphisms, but the results easily translate into an appropriate \({\mathcal M}\)-context.\}
