The authors derive a simple equation, with practical utility, which relates the mass transfer with the operating conditions. The study is done for a parallel plate cell with laminar well-developed flow, and for high Peclet numbers. The accuracy of the equation is proved through numerical solution of the governing flow and mass transport equations. The concentration field inside the mass boundary layer and the concentration polarization level on the permeable surface are intrinsically related to the dominant convective flux.
