The author analyzes the centered and non-centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions \(M\) and \(M_*\), for a class of manifolds with exponential volume growth. It is established that \(M\) is a bounded operator of weak type (1,1) and that \(M_*\) is a bounded operator on \(L^p\), for all \(1<p\leq \infty \). The techniques used allow him to improve the results in [\textit{H.-Q. Li}, C.R. Acad. Sci. Paris 338, No. 1, 31--34 (2004; Zbl 1033.43002)] and [\textit{H.-Q. Li}, J. Funct. Anal. 229, No. 1, 155--183 (2005; Zbl 1079.42009)] and to study the Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions \(M\) and \(M_*\) for general measures on cusped manifolds.
