The author defines the modulus of \(W^*\)-convexity of a Banach space \(X\) by \[ W^*(\varepsilon) = \inf \{f_x((x-y)/2) : \| x\| = \| y\| = 1,\;\| x-y\| \geq \varepsilon,\;f_x\in X^*,\;\| f_x\| = f_x(x) = 1 \} \] and relates this modulus to the space \(X\) having normal structure and to the space \(X\) being uniformly nonsquare. In particular, the author proves that, if \(\lim_{\alpha\to2^-} W^*(\alpha) > 0\), then \(X\) is uniformly nonsquare; and, if there exists \(0<\varepsilon<1/2\) such that \(\lim_{\alpha\to\varepsilon^-} W^*(1+\alpha) > \varepsilon/2\), then \(X\) has normal structure.
