The aim of this paper is to determine an unknown convolution kernel of a second order (in time) integro-differential equation related to a Banach space. Under suitable assumptions on the data the author proves the global existence and uniqueness of a solution. An application is given, in the framework of \(L^2\)-spaces, to the case of a hyperbolic second-order linear integro-differential equation endowed with initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions.
