The authors generalize the work of \textit{Y. Huang} and \textit{W. F. McColl} [J. Phys. A, Math. Gen. 30, No. 22, 7919--7933 (1997; Zbl 0927.15003)] and present an analytical formula for the inversion of general periodic tridiagonal matrices, and provide some simple analytical forms which lead to closed formulae for some special cases such as symmetric or perturbed Toeplitz for both periodic and non-periodic tridiagonal matrices. Illustrative examples and a computational algorithm for general periodic tridiagonal matrix inversion are given as well.
