An overpartition of a positive integer is a partition in which the first occurrence of a part may be overlined. In the paper under review the author shows how to interpret a certain \(q\)-series as a generating function for overpartitions with attached parts. The purpose of the author is to unify and generalise some families of partition theorems, including Gordon's generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities [\textit{B. Gordon}, Am. J. Math. 83, 393--399 (1961; Zbl 0100.27303), \textit{G. E. Andrews}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 18, 945--952 (1967; Zbl 0153.32801)], the two Gordon's theorems for overpartitions [\textit{J. Lovejoy}, J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 103, 393--401 (2003; Zbl 1065.11083)], the Andrews-Santos identities for partitions with attached odd parts [\textit{G. E. Andrews} and \textit{J. P. O. Santos}, Ramanujan J. 1, No. 1, 91--99 (1997; Zbl 0905.11044)], and their overpartition analogues [\textit{J. Lovejoy}, J. London Math. Soc., II. Ser. 69, No. 3, 562--574 (2004; Zbl 1087.11062)].
