Some new classes of set-valued, generalized KKM-maps between topological spaces obeying some additional properties which replace the usual convexity are introduced and studied from the point of view of KKM-theory. The paper states, as applications, some section and coincidence theorems which, however, rely on highly technical and elaborate hypotheses and cannot be reproduced here. Unfortunately, no examples are provided to illustrate the relevance of the presented theory. [Part II has appeared ibid. 38, No. 3, 367--385 (2007; Zbl 1176.90630).]
