Let \(\varphi \in L^2\) and \(a,b>0\) be given, and define the functions \(\varphi_{m,n}(x)=e^{imbx}\varphi(x-na), m,n\in Z\). If there exist constants \(A,B>0\) such that \[ A\|f\|^2 \leq \sum_{m,n\in Z} |\langle f,\varphi_{m,n}\rangle |^2 \leq B\|f\|^2, \;\forall f\in L^2, \] then \(\{\varphi_{m,n}\}_{m,n\in Z}\) is said to be a Gabor frame with bounds \(A,B\). Assuming that \(\varphi\) (or its Fourier transform) is locally absolutely continuous, perturbation results for Gabor frames are obtained. For example it is proved that if \(\{\varphi_{m,n}\}_{m,n\in Z}\) is a Gabor frame and \(\varphi\) is locally absolutely continuous and \(\varphi, \varphi^\prime \in L^1\), then a function \(\psi\) for which \(|\psi(x)- \varphi(x)|\leq \lambda |\varphi(x)|\) (for a sufficiently small value of \(\lambda\)) will also generate a Gabor frame. Similar conditions imply that if \(\sup |n-\lambda_n|\) is sufficiently small, then also \(\{e^{imbx}\varphi(x-\lambda_na)\}_{m,n\in Z}\) is a frame.
