In the last years, several authors have considered a very symmetric construction of Freudenthal's Magic Square, which includes the exceptional simple Lie algebras, based on two composition algebras and the principle of triality [see, for instance, the survey by \textit{J. C. Baez}, Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 39, 145--205 (2002; Zbl 1026.17001)]. The formulas are particularly simple if symmetric composition algebras are used instead of the classical unital composition algebras. The paper under review introduces a couple of classes of nonassociative algebras satisfying some local symmetric triality relations. These have been named normal STA's and normal LRTA's. The unital normal LRTA's are precisely the structurable algebras introduced by \textit{B. Allison} [Math. Ann. 237, 133--156 (1978; Zbl 0368.17001)]. Algebras in these classes can be used to construct Lie algebras with a prescribed grading over \({\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2\), generalizing in this way the above mentioned construction of Freudenthal's Magic Square. The main properties of these algebras are studied and many examples are given.
