The paper is concerned with four-point boundary value problems for nonlinear second-order ordinary differential equations. Using appropriate monotonicity assumptions on the nonlinearities in the differential equation and the boundary conditions, and a Nagumo-type growth condition, the authors apply the method of upper and lower solutions, together with a Leray-Schauder degree argument, to prove the existence of a solution between lower and upper solution. Furthermore, two-sided iterations are formulated which converge monotonically to this solution; under additional assumptions the convergence is shown to be quadratic. Three examples illustrate the results.
