The authors study the large time behavior of solutions to the following degenerate parabolic equation with source and absorption \[ \begin{alignedat}{2} &u_t = u^p\Delta u + au^q -bu^r, &&\quad (x,t) \in \Omega\times (0,T),\\ &u = 0, &&\quad (x,t) \in \partial\Omega\times (0,T),\\ &u(x,0) = u_{0}(x), &&\quad x \in \overline{\Omega}, \end{alignedat} \] where \(\Omega \subset\mathbb R^N\) is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, \(p \geq 1\), \(q > 0\), \(r > 1\), \(a\), \(b \geq 0\), and \(u_0(x) \in C^1(\overline\Omega)\) satisfies \(c_0 \leq u_0(x)\mathrm{dist}(x,\partial\Omega)^{-1} \leq c_1\) in \(\Omega\) for some \(c_1 \geq c_0 > 0\). First, the authors prove that the problem possesses a unique local solution \(u \in C^0(\overline\Omega_T)\cap C^{2,1}(\overline\Omega_T)\). Then, they establish the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem for the cases \(q < \max\{p+1,r\}\), \(q = \max\{p+1,r\}\) and \(q > \max\{p+1,r\}\). Finally, the large time behavior among these parameters are investigated. In particular, when \(q > \max\{p+1,r\}\) (the positive source dominates the nonlinear diffusion and absorption in the model), the authors prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem. Moreover, the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions under the dominations of the nonlinear diffusion or absorptions are established.
