Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with unity (\(1_R \neq 0\)). The concept of the zero divisor graph of \(R\) is well studied in connection with relations between commutative rings and their derived graphs. In parallel to the zero divisor graph of \(R,\) the \(k\)-zero divisor hypergraph of commutative ring has been studied extensively by several authors. Similar to the concept of comaximal graph of \(R,\) in this paper authors define \(k\)-maximal hypergraph and investigate the interplay between the ring theoretic properties of \(R\) and the graph theoretic properties of the \(k\)-maximal hypergraph. Having introduced the new hypergraph, authors first study about the connectedness, diameter and girth of the \(k\)-maximal hypergraph. Moreover, they investigated the regularity and coloring of the same. In the last part of the paper, among other things, they characterized all finite commutative rings \(R\) for which the \(k\)-maximal hypergraph is outerplanar and planar.
