The author proves that \((kp+\sqrt{k^ 2p^ 2+4})/2\) is the fundamental unit of the real quadratic field \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{k^ 2p^ 2+4})\) when the prime \(p\) is such that \(kp\neq(t+\sqrt{t^ 2+4})^{2n+1}+(t-\sqrt{t^ 2+4})^{2n+1}\) for all \(t\), \(n\in \mathbb{N}\).
