    L. Fejes Tóth gave asymptotic formulae as \(n\to\infty\) for the Hausdorff distance between a smooth planar convex curve and its best approximating inscribed or circumscribed polygons with at most \(n\) vertices. Let \({\mathcal P}_n^i(C)\) be the family of circumscribed polygons (abbreviations: \({\mathcal P}_n^i\) and \({\mathcal P}_n^c\)). In 1994 the author derived the second terms in the asymptotic expansion for the symmetric difference metric. In the present paper she extends the result of Fejes Tóth deriving the second terms in the expansion of \(\delta^H (C,{\mathcal P}_n^i)\) and \(\delta^H (C,{\mathcal P}_n^c)\), where \(\delta^H\) is the Hausdorff metric and, for any family \({\mathcal P}\), \[ \delta^H(C,{\mathcal P}):= \inf\{\delta^H(C,P): P\in{\mathcal P}\}. \]
