The authors study an infinite-server system where arrivals occur in batches of random size according to a non-stationary Poisson process. The aim of the paper is to derive the distributions of the number of busy channels, the number of arrivals and the number of departures in the transient regime, as well as the covariance functions between these processes. The method of analysis is well-known in the theory of infinite-server queues. It is based on standard properties of the Poisson process and some simple formulas (distributions of sums of independent random variables and the like).
