The paper deals with small random perturbations of maps of an interval. The results have the flavour of a discrete time version of the Wentzell- Freidlin theory considered also in [reviewer, Ann. Probab. 18, No. 4, 1676-1692 (1990; Zbl 0718.60022)], where similar problems were treated under somewhat different assumptions.
