For a species population model with size and genetic composition influenced by randomly varying environmental factors, it is shown by exact analysis that a steady-state statistical equilibrium is precluded if a measure of the environmental stochasticity is sufficiently large. In such cases, the form of the probability distribution for the population size and genetic composition continues to change for arbitrarily large values of t and steady-state statistical equilibrium is unattainable.
