The global properties of the solutions of the differential equation (1): \(\ddot z+\beta \dot z+\sin z=\rho +A\sin wt\) are investigated. If we put \(x=z\), \(y=\dot z+\beta z\), we obtain two dimensional non-autonomous periodic system (2): \(\dot x=y-\beta x,\) \(\dot y=-f(x)+\rho +bg(t).\) For this system the existence of an invariant closed curve of the Poincaré mapping is proved by an argument similar to the Poincaré-Bendixson theorem. This invariant curve is unique and globally attracting, hence the problem can be reduced to a circle mapping. Some kind of the rotation number r is defined. If r is a irrational number, then the system (2) has its attractor composed of quasi-periodic solutions. If \(r=q/p\), \(p,q\) are relatively prime, then the system (2) has its attractor composed of \((p,q)\) subharmonics.
