Let \(M\) be a smooth connected noncompact Riemannian manifold, \(\Delta\) be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on \(M\) and \(Q(x)>0\) be a smooth function on \(M\). Consider the Schrödinger equation \(\Delta u-Q(x)u=0\). If \(u(t)=0\) is the unique bounded solution for the equation, we say that the Liouville's theorem is true. If \(Q=1\), Liouville's theorem is equivalent to the stochastic completeness of \(M\). It is proved in the paper under consideration that if \(Q\) has compact support, Liouville's theorem is true iff the manifold \(M\) is parabolic i.e. \(-\Delta\) has no positive fundamental solution. This interconnection between stochastic completeness and parabolicity of manifolds clarifies the parallelism in conditions for stochastic completeness and parabolicity has been appeared independently in several publications (e.g. by the author). Here the author proves some necessary and sufficient geometric conditions for Liouville's theorem to be true such that they imply as corollaries the ``parallel'' conditions mentioned above.
