\textit{M. Gromov}, \textit{H. B. Lawson }and \textit{W. Thurston} conjectured [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 68, 27--45 (1988; Zbl 0692.57012)] that a disc bundle \(M\rightarrow S\) over a closed connected orientable surface \(S\) of genus \(g\ge2\) admits a complete real hyperbolic structure if and only if \(|eM/\chi S| \le1\), which is still open as long as the reviewer knows. Here \(\chi S\) is the Euler characteristic of \(S\) and \(eM\) is the Euler number of the bundle. In the paper under review, the authors construct new examples satisfying \(|eM/\chi S|=\frac35\). The former maximal value was \(\frac12\) [\textit{F. Luo}, Math. Ann. 294, No. 3, 449--458 (1992; Zbl 0758.57009)], so the result of this paper is an improvement of former results.
