    The authors are interested in the real numbers \(q\in (1,2)\) and the real numbers \(x>0\) such that \(x\) has a unique base \(q\)-expansion as \(x= \sum_1^\infty \varepsilon_n q^{-n}\) with \(\varepsilon_n\in \{0,1\}\). Denoting by \(A_q\) the set of \(x\in (\frac{2-q}{q-1},1)\) that have a unique base \(q\)-expansion, the authors prove that \[ \begin{alignedat}{2} \#A_q&=2 &\quad\text{if}\quad &q\in \biggl(\frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2}, q_f \biggr],\\ \#A_q&= \aleph_0 &\quad\text{if}\quad &q\in (q_f,q_c),\\ \#A_q&= 2^{\aleph_0} &\quad\text{if}\quad &q\in [q_c,2), \end{alignedat} \] where \(q_f=1.7548776\dots\) is the real root of \(x^3-2x^2+x-1=0\), and \(q_c= 1.787231650\dots\) is the unique solution of \(\sum_1^\infty m_n x^{-n+1}=1\), where \((m_n)_{n\geq 0}= 011010011001\dots\) is the Thue-Morse sequence. Furthermore they prove that, if \(q\in (q_c,2)\), then \(A_q\) is the Cantor set of positive Hausdorff dimension. Note that Reference [3] has appeared [Acta Math. Hung. 92, 325-332 (2001; Zbl 0988.11044)].
