For a function \(y(x)\) on \([0,\infty)\) let us set \(y_ 0(x)=y(x)\) and \(y_ \alpha(x)=\int_ 0^ x (x-t)^{\alpha-1} y(t)dt/\Gamma(\alpha)\) for \(\alpha,x>0\) where the integral is understood in the sense of Lebesgue and set \(p=-[-\alpha]\). Denoting by \(y^{(\alpha)}\) the function \(y_{p-\alpha}^{(p)}\) the author studies the equation \(y^{(\alpha)}(x)-vx^ \beta y(x)=h(x)\), \(x>0\), with the initial conditions \(y_{p-\alpha}^{(p-k)}(0)=c_ k\) (\(k=1,2,\dots,p\)), where \(v\) and \(\beta\) are parameters and \(h(x)\) is a given function. The author finds a condition guaranteeing the unique solution of this initial value problem and he shows that this solution depends continuously on the initial values \(c_ k\) (\(k=1,2,\dots,p\)) and on the function \(h(x)\). Finally he investigates also the multipoint problem for the above equation where the values of the functions \(y_{p-\alpha}^{p-m}\) are prescribed at a certain number of points in \([0,\infty)\).
