Let \(K\) be a maximal compact subgroup of the real Lie group \(G\). There exists a canonical embedding of the symmetric space \(G/K\) into a noncompact Hermitian symmetric space \(G^*/K^*\) such that \(\dim_R G/K=\dim_C G^*/K^*\). The author studies the problem of restricting (kernel representations) a highest weight representation of the group \(U(p,q)\) to the subgroup \(O(p,q)\). He describes the decomposition of kernel representations into ``blocks'' having more or less single-type spectra. Some integrals over classical groups are also calculated.
