The author defines a central series for any weakly group theoretical fusion category \(C\), in a such a way that a sequence of finite groups (the factors) can be attached to \(C\). When these groups are simple this is called a composition series for \(C\). A Jordan-Hölder theorem is proved, namely, it is shown that any two composition series are equivalent, and hence the length and composition factors are univocally defined. The definition of the central series relies on a result of \textit{P. Etingof} et al. [Adv. Math. 226, No. 1, 176--205 (2011; Zbl 1210.18009)], which characterizes weakly group theoretical fusion categories in terms of the existence of a certain sequence \(\mathrm{Vect}=C_0,\dots C_n=C\) of fusion categories such that the Drinfeld center of each \(C_i\) contains a Tanakian subcategory \(\mathcal{E}_i\simeq\mathrm{Rep}(G_i)\), \(G_i\) a finite group. This sequence is the central series considered in the article, while the groups \(G_i\) are the factors of the series. The invariants obtained are discussed and analysed in several examples. In particular, it follows that the composition factors of \(\mathrm{Rep }G\), \(G\) a finite group, coincide with those of \(G\). On the other hand, when \(H\) is a semisimple Hopf algebra, the composition factors of \(\mathrm{Rep }H\) do not necessarily coincide with the composition factors of \(H\) as defined previously by the same author [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 143, No. 12, 5195--5211 (2015; Zbl 1343.16026)].
