The author studies 5-dimensional Riemannian manifolds that admit an almost contact metric structure. In dimension 5, almost contact manifolds can be characterized by the algebraic type of their intrinsic torsion tensor \(\Gamma\). In the present paper the author generalizes classes of quasi-Sasakian manifolds and characterizes these structures by their intrinsic torsion. It turns out that these manifolds admit a unique metric connection that is compatible with the underlying almost contact metric structure. He also constructs a family of examples that are not quasi-Sasakian.
