Let \( (X, \omega )\) be a compact Kähler manifold, and \(D=\sum a_j D_j\) an effective divisor with simple normal crossings. The author considers the local model, where \(D_j\) are the coordinate hyperplanes \(z_j =0\) and the model metric is either conical: \(|z_j |^{-2d_j }idz_j \wedge d\bar{z}_j\) or Poincaré \(|z_j |^{2} \log ^2 |z_j |^2 idz_j \wedge d\bar{z}_j\) along \(D_j\). Assuming that \(K_X +D\) is ample and \(1/2 \leq a_j \leq 1\) it is shown that there exists a singular Kähler-Einstein metric of negarive curvature with the singularities given by the model metric. The theorem generalizes a recent result of \textit{F. Campana} et al. [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 46, No. 6, 879--916 (2013; Zbl 1310.32029)], which treats only conical singularities. The result is applied to obtain certain vanishing theorems on holomorphic tensor fields with prescribed singularities along a divisor.
