Let \((C(t))_{t\in\mathbb{R}}\) be a cosine function in a unital Banach algebra \(A\). The author gives a short proof of the known result that \(\limsup_{t\to0}\|C(t)-1_A\|<2\) already implies \(\limsup_{t\to0}\|C(t)-1_A\|=0\). The new proof is based on the scalar-valued version of the result combined with standard Banach algebra techniques and properties of the Taylor series of the function \(t\mapsto 1-\sqrt{1-t}\).
