The authors extend to the non-separable setting a couple of renorming results for Banach spaces. For instance, by extending the duality between the asymptotic uniform smoothness modulus and the weak\(^*\)-asymptotic uniform convexity modulus to nonseparable Banach spaces, the authors prove that, for a (not necessarily separable) reflexive Banach space \(X\), its norm \(\|\cdot\|_X\) is asymptotically uniformly smooth if and only if \(\|\cdot\|_{X^*}\) is asymptotically uniformly convex. Recall that a Banach space \(X\) has property (\(\beta\)) if, for any \(\varepsilon>0\), there exists \(\delta(\varepsilon)\in(0,1)\) so that, for every element \(x\in B_X\) and every sequence \((y_i)_{i=1}^{\infty}\subset B_X\) with \(\text{sep}(\{y_i\}_{i=1}^\infty)\geq\varepsilon\), there exists \(i_0\in\mathbb{N}\) such that \[\left\|\dfrac{x-y_{i_0}}{2}\right\|\leq1-\delta(\varepsilon),\] where the separation constant of a sequence is defined by \(\text{sep}(\{y_i\}_{i=1}^\infty):=\inf\{\|y_n-y_m\|:n\neq m\}\). The main result of the paper provides a list of equivalent (and quantitative) characterizations of property \((\beta)\) in terms of asymptotically uniformly convex and asymptotically uniformly smooth renormings, and the Szlenk index. Thanks to the work carried in this paper, these characterizations that were discovered over the past two decades and were proven for reflexive and separable Banach spaces are now known to also hold in the non-separabe setting. As a direct application of this, work some recent results from the nonlinear geometry of Banach spaces can be easily extended to the non-separable case. One such example is the following rigidity result, which now holds without a separability assumption. Let \(Y\) be a Banach space with property \((\beta)\) and assume that a Banach space \(X\) coarse Lipschitz embeds into \(Y\). Then \(X\) admits an equivalent norm with property \((\beta)\).
