The authors show that on a manifold whose Riemannian metric evolves under the backward Ricci flow, two Brownian motions can be coupled in such a way that their normalized \({\mathcal L}\)-distance is a supermartingale. As a corollary, they obtain a new proof and a generalization of a recent result of Topping concerning \({\mathcal L}\)-optimal transport [\textit{P. Topping}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 636, 93--122 (2009; Zbl 1187.53072)].
