In [\textit{M. R. Douglas, R. Reinbacher} and \textit{S.-T. Yau}, ``Branes, bundles and attractors: Bogomolov and beyond'', \url{arXiv:math/0604597}] a conjecture is proposed regarding conditions on cohomology classes on a Calabi-Yau 3-fold \(X\) ensuring that they be realized as the Chern classes of a stable reflexive sheaf \(V\). A weaker form of the conjecture is the following: let \(c \in H^4(X,\mathbf Z)\) be an integer multiple of \( H^2 + c_2(X) /24\); then \(c=c_2(V)\) for a stable \(\mathrm{SU}(n)\)-bundle on \(X\). In this note the authors test this weaker conjecture on elliptic Calabi-Yau 3-folds. They show that on these manifolds infinitely many cohomology classes \(c \in H^4(X,\mathbf Z)\) exist, which satisfy the conditions in the conjecture and for each of them a stable \(\mathrm{SU}(n)\) vector bundle with \(c=c_{2}(V)\) exists.
