A Hom-Lie algebra is an algebra \(V\) over a commutative ring \(k\) with antisymmetric multiplication \([\cdot,\cdot]\) and a \(k\)-linear map \(\alpha:V\to V\) which satisfy the twisted Jacobi identity \[ [\alpha(x),[y,z]]+[\alpha(y),[z,x]]+[\alpha(z),[x,y]]=0,\quad x,y,z\in V. \] In the paper under review the authors consider other possibilities for a twisting by a linear map, when \(\alpha\) acts on the second or the third element in the cyclic sum of the products \([x,[y,z]]\) (e.g., \([x,[\alpha(y),z]]+[y,[\alpha(z),x]]+[z,[\alpha(x),y]]=0\)), or on more than one element. The authors show relations among the different types of twisting maps. Then they do similar considerations for Hom-associative algebras. It has turned out that the associative case is richer since it admits the notion of unit element. The authors use this fact to find sufficient conditions for Hom-associative algebras to be associative and classify the implications between the Hom-associative types of unital algebras.
